De
aproape 35 de ani,Rick Rubin livreaza muzica.Se plimba printre genuri de parca
toate s-ar gasi in curtea din spatele casei sale si consiliaza descult artistii
de cand se stie.Probabil i-ati recunoscut figura in repetate randuri,dar
niciodata nu ati stiut sa o asociati cu un nume-nu e de mirare,se afla atat in
Top 100 cei mai influenti oameni din lume cat si pe primul loc in Top 20 cei
mai importanti producatori muzicali din ultimele doua decenii si a lucrat cu zeci
de artisti de toate tipurile(iar cand spun “de toate tipurile” vorbesc serios,a
trecut de la Public Enemy la Johnny Cash,apoi la Slayer ca-ntr-un final sa ajunga
la Adele).In final,fie ii apreciez munca,fie ii pui la indoiala talentul sau punctualitatea,Rick Rubin stie sa livreme muzica,stie sa te faca sa vrei sa asculti muzica.

ultimul an de liceu,Rubin a pus bazele Def Jam Records cu ajutorul aparaturii

luni dupa ce a inceput sa invete despre muzica Hip Hop si cum o poate produce,a
lansat impreuna cu DJ Jazzy Jay “It’s Yours” pentru T La Rock,primul single
semnat Def Jam Records.Un an mai tarziu,Jazzy Jay i-l prezinta lui Rubin pe Russell
Simmons-asa ia nastere legenda urmata de controverse numita Def Jam/American Records.Din
acel moment,Rubin a inceput sa caute material de lucru pe scenele din
Brooklyn,Queens,State Island si Long Island,lucrand cu nume ca Public Enemy,LL
Cool J si reusind sa schimbe viziunea celor de la Beastie Boys asupra abordarii
muzicii,lucrand la Licensed to Ill.In ’86,pofitand de ideea lui Sue
Cummings-editor Spin,Rubin ii coopteaza pe cei Aerosmith si Run-D.M.C pentru un
cover dupa “Walk This Way” ca in acelasi an sa produca pentru prima oara un album
Metal,Reign in Blood,al celor de la Slayer-restul este,intr-adevar,istorie.
